Senator Shuaib Afolabi Salisu, representing Ogun Central Senatorial District, has extended warm felicitations to the Alake and Paramount Ruler of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo, CFR, Okukenu IV, and the Egba people on the occasion of the 2025 Lisabi Festival.
In a goodwill message, Senator Salisu praised the festival as a celebration of the enduring legacy of Lisabi Agbongbo-Akala, the legendary warrior and unifying figure in Egba history. He highlighted the festival’s significance in honouring the resilience, bravery, and unity that have shaped the Egba nation for centuries.
Reflecting on Egbaland’s rich history, the senator recalled the founding of Abeokuta in 1830 as a sanctuary during inter-tribal conflicts and the heroic resistance against the Dahomey Kingdom in the 19th century. He commended the Alake’s leadership and the Egba people’s commitment to preserving their cultural heritage while embracing progress.
"The Lisabi Festival is not just a remembrance of the past but a reaffirmation of the communal solidarity that continues to drive Egbaland forward," Senator Salisu stated. He expressed optimism that this year’s celebration would foster greater unity and prosperity in the region.
The senator concluded with a tribute to the Alake and the Egba kingdom, declaring, "Long Live the Alake! Long Live Egbaland! Long Live Ogun State!"
The Lisabi Festival, an annual event, attracts indigenes and visitors from across Nigeria, featuring cultural displays, parades, and reflections on Egba's history and identity.
