Police Clarify Incident Allegedly Involving Remi Tinubu’s Convoy in Ondo

The Ondo State Police Command has refuted claims that a vehicle from the convoy of Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, was involved in the death of a nine-year-old girl in Akure on Thursday.

Senator Oluremi Tinubu was in the state on an official visit to inaugurate the Renewed Hope Initiative Health Programme. As part of the initiative, she distributed 10,000 professional kits—including Crocs and scrubs—to midwives across the South-West zone.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Olufunmilayo Ayanlade, dismissed the report—first published by Sahara Reporters—as “false and misleading.”

“The attention of the Ondo State Police Command has been drawn to a false and misleading report published by Sahara Reporters on April 17,” the statement read.

“It alleged that the convoy of the first lady, Sen. Oluremi, was responsible for the tragic death of a young girl in Akure.”

The police clarified that preliminary investigations and eyewitness accounts point to a hit-and-run incident involving an unregistered white Lexus vehicle—not the First Lady’s convoy.

According to the police, an eyewitness, also identified as Ayanlade, pursued the fleeing vehicle on a motorcycle moments after the accident occurred in the Oba-Ile area of Akure.

The Commissioner of Police in Ondo State visited the bereaved family and assured them that a full and transparent investigation was underway.

“At no point was the first lady’s convoy involved in this tragedy,” the statement added.
