The Federal Government has again assured of maintaining the standard known with the Tai Solarin University of Education as the Federal Transition Committee visits Ogun State to kick start the transition of transferring the Institution from being State-owned to a Federal university.
The Team, led by the Director, University Education Departments of the Federal Ministry of Education, Mrs. Rakiya Ilyasu comprised delegates from TET FUND, Nigeria Universities Commission (NUC) as well as the Federal Ministry of Education.
The Director appreciated the State Governments for the warming reception of the team in the state, affirming that the committee has the mandate of ensuring a smooth transitioning of the University, adding that the preliminary visit was to intimate the State Government on requisite documents including the Certificate of Occupancy (C of O) to be transferred to the Federal Government to initiate, process and complete the transfer of ownership from the State to the Federal Government.
Iliyasu said “these documents are important to ensure a thorough and painstaking process that will not be faulted in the near future and to forestall unnecessary litigations against the Federal Government by host communities and other stakeholders.
In his remarks, the Secretary to Ogun State Government, Mr Tokunbo Talabi, who received the team on behalf of government opined that the Prince Dapo Abiodun led Administration was committed towards ensuring due diligence and engendering a smooth transition of the University in order to enhance the existing standard of the institution for the benefits of the learners and staff.
Talabi said “we are the education capital of the nation, owning the highest number of tertiary institutions in the nation and I dare say that TASUED is one of our priced assets in the education sector hence the need to attract more investment and attention to the institution.
‘’I assure you that our very competent Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology as well as his team and our legal departments will provide you necessary support for hitch-free process.’’
Also in attendance at the meeting were Ogun State Head of Service, Mr. Kehinde Onasanya; Commissioner for Education Science and Technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu; Vice Chancellor of TASUED, Prof. Wole Banjo, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, Mrs. Tosin Oloko among others.
