OFFICERS TRAINED ON SAFER ROAD PRACTICES

In a bid to ensure safer roads and guarantee improvements in road safety, the Ogun State Bureau of Statistics has organised a day training programme for its field personnel to enhance their skills and knowledge on road safety best practices.


The Bureau, in collaboration with the Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency, (TRACE), held the training at the National Bureau of Statistics Training Hall, Federal Secretariat, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.


The Statistician-General, Mr. Babatunde Ajayi, while declaring the training open, revealed that the training was a step towards ensuring safer roads in the State, saying that the initiative would provide valuable insights into road traffic dynamics in the state.


He noted that the training would equip them with data-driven knowledge to inform policy decisions, optimise traffic management and enhance road safety. He emphasised that the training would equip enumerators and statisticians with the necessary skills to collect and analyse high-quality data, urging participants to take full advantage of the opportunity.


He stated with this initiative, the State was poised to witness improvements in road safety.


The Statistician General, expressed his gratitude to all partners, stakeholders and team members who have worked tirelessly to make the initiative a reality, acknowledging their dedication and commitment to the success of the project.


The TRACE State Area Commander 1, Comdr. Omonayajo  Adedayo emphasised the need for sensitisation programmes to educate road users on proper road usage and traffic rules, hoping for positive changes and improvements in road safety, while stressing the need for education, awareness, and feedback.


One of the facilitators, Director, Census And Survey, Bureau of Statistics, Mr. Oke Kayode, explained that the road survey involves interviews with road users, including drivers, pedestrians, vendors, and traffic officers, as well as traffic counts across 28 corridors in Ogun Central, East, and West.


He advised participants to follow the survey guidelines carefully, while appreciating the State Government and the Bureau of Statistics for their unwavering support.


Another facilitator, a Principal Statistician at the Bureau of Statistics, Mr. Adesanya Kolawole, highlighted the importance of surveys in understanding road challenges, noting that they help in feedback and identify areas for improvement.
