The Apetu of Ipetumodu in Osun state, Joseph Oloyede has pleaded guilty to siphoning the United States government of $4.2 million COVID-19 relief funds.
Oloyede is facing trial on allegations of diverting $4.2 million COVID-19 alongside a pastor, Edward Oluwasanmi in the US.
Court documents show that Oluwasanmi allegedly diverted the funds using his companies, Dayspring Transportation Limited, Dayspring Holding Incorporated, and Dayspring Property Incorporated.
The document stated that the pastor used his companies to obtain millions of dollars from the government and later diverted the funds for his personal use.
Facing a 13-count charge bordering on conspiracy to commit wire fraud, and money laundering among others, the duo pleaded guilty to all charges on April 10.
Represented by his counsel, Oluwasanmi submitted his guilty plea to the court.
Sentencing for the duo has also been scheduled to take place on July 2, with potential prison terms.
