Ijebu, Remo Youths Appeal For Unity Among Elders

The Ijebu-Remo Progressive Youths Organisation (IREYIPO) has called for unity among elders leading the agitation for a new state to be created from Ogun State.

The group, under the leadership of its coordinator, Akogun Jamiu Olododo, emphasized that only a collective and unified approach can ensure the success of this movement.

At their first-ever general gathering, held on Sunday, March 2nd, at Home Base Hotel, Ijari Ijebu-Ode, coordinators from the six local government areas in Ijebuland came together to discuss the way forward.

The forum urged all leaders in Ijebu and Remo, which comprise Ogun East Senatorial District, to speak with one voice in the pursuit of state creation.

It will be recalled that the Remo Committee on State Creation, set up by the Akarigbo and Paramount Ruler of Remoland, HRM Oba (Dr.) Babatunde Adewale Ajayi, CON, recently submitted its report proposing 'Remo-Ijebu State' with Sagamu as the state capital.

Meanwhile, the Ijebuland Committee, established by the Awujale and Paramount Ruler of Ijebuland, Oba (Dr.) Sikiru Kayode Adetona, the Ogbagba II, has yet to submit its own report.

Speaking at the gathering, 'IREYIPO' Coordinator, Akogun Jamiu Olododo, stressed the importance of unity, saying, "There is no way we can move forward with state creation without coming to a consensus, the unity of our region is paramount.

It is time for us to stand boldly and support our leaders in this struggle. Our fathers are making great efforts, but we all need to speak with one voice to achieve our common goal."

He also commended the efforts of political representatives, particularly Senator Gbenga Daniel and other House of Representatives members from Ogun East, for their contributions so far. However, he emphasized that more coordinated efforts are needed at this critical stage.

The youth forum believes that only through a united front can the dream of a new state be realised. With both Ijebu and Remo stakeholders working together, the chances of achieving this goal will be significantly stronger.
