Senator Salisu Boosts Education in Ogun Central with Multi-Million Naira Donation

 


Abeokuta, Ogun State – March 14, 2025  


In a remarkable effort to enhance education and support students in his constituency, Senator Shuaib Afolabi Salisu, representing Ogun Central Senatorial District, has donated educational materials worth millions of Naira to secondary schools across the district. The donation, aimed at improving learning outcomes and supporting underprivileged students, was officially distributed at a ceremony held at the Cultural Centre in Kuto, Abeokuta, on Friday, March 14, 2025.  


Senator Salisu, who also serves as the Chairman of the Senate Committee on ICT and Cybersecurity, stated that the initiative is part of his broader commitment to addressing the challenges faced by students and teachers in the current economic climate. The donated items include essential learning tools such as textbooks, laptops, school bags, past question papers, and scholarships.

Senator Salisu disclosed that over 50,000 notebooks have been distributed to each of the six local governments within the senatorial district. He also highlighted his ongoing educational projects, including the construction of 10 ICT centres and the distribution of over 1,000 JAMB forms to students in 2025.  


“Education is the bedrock of societal development. In this century, there is nothing you can achieve without being educated. However, many lack the tools to learn effectively. This initiative is designed to bridge that gap,” Senator Salisu remarked.  


He added, “We have built nearly 10 ICT centres across the senatorial district and provided over 1,000 JAMB forms to students. Additionally, we recently empowered over 250 female entrepreneurs with digital education, laptops, and startup packs.”  


The event was attended by prominent figures, including the Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Daisi Elemide; Ogun State Commissioner for Education, Professor Abayomi Arogbabuwo; the Permanent Secretary of the Ogun State Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology; and Executive Chairmen of Odeda and Ewekoro Local Governments, Hon. Folasade Adeyemo (PhD) and Hon. Adesina Sikiru, respectively. Also present were local government party chairmen, councillors, and other stakeholders.  


The initiative has been widely praised by educators and community leaders, who described it as a timely intervention to address the challenges faced by students and teachers. The donated materials are expected to significantly enhance the learning experience and academic performance of students in the senatorial district.  


Senator Salisu reaffirmed his dedication to improving education in Ogun Central, pledging to continue supporting initiatives that promote quality education and empower the youth for a brighter future.
