OLOWU SHOWS COMMITMENT TO VACCINATION AGAINST CERVICAL CANCER



  The Olowu of Owu kingdom, Oba ( Prof.) Saka Matemilola has reiterated his commitment to  support  any government health intervention programme geared towards improving the wellness and well-being of the people.

   The Monarch  gave the assurance while playing host to  a team from Family Health Initiative Ogun ( FAHIO), during an advocacy visit to his palace in Oke Ago-Owu, Abeokuta,   saying vaccination against Human Papilloma Virus ( HPV) should be widely embraced to protect the future of girl child against cervical cancer.

    He said it was important to eliminate any  kind of cancer from  the society,  promising that himself and the chiefs would  partake in the sensitization drive to  encourage his subjects for the vaccination.

   '' I am passionate about any government health intervention  programme that will improve the health status of our people.The HPV vaccination is a good initiative by government , and we are ready to ensure that the eligible girls get the vaccine'', the Monarch stated.

      Earlier in her presentation, the Chairperson FAHIO, Mrs. Oluwakemi Balogun, represented by the Media Officer of the group, Mrs. Waliyat Odemakin, commended the Monarch for his immense contributions to the health sector of Ogun state.

      Mrs. Balogun said the group was concerned about  good health provision for families, noting that all hands must be on deck to eliminate cervical cancer  through HPV vaccination for girl child of age nine, which had been integrated into the Routine Immunization ( RI) schedule .

     Contributing, the Ogun State Programme Coordinator, Pathfinder International, Mr. Emah Udeme, while appreciating Oba Olowu for  his support at all times, emphasized the need for combined effort to eliminate cervical cancer in the country.

   He called on parents, caregivers, educators, traditional and religious leaders, among other stakeholders to join hands with government, donor agencies , Non- governmental Organizations, philanthropists and many others by encouraging girl child of age nine for the vaccination.
