Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun has described the former Minister of National Planning , Mrs Adenike Ebun Oyagbola as a woman impacted her world while alive.
He affirmed that his government would continue to support, recognise and identify with notable sons and daughters of the Gateway State for their invaluable contributions to the continued growth and development of the State.
Governor Abiodun made this resolve known when he joined the Oyagbola family of Ayetoro to bid farewell to their matriarch, Chief (Mrs.) Adenike Ebun Oyagbola at a funeral service held at the Diocese of Yewa Anglican Communion, St. Paul's Anglican Church, Ayetoro.
According to Governor Abiodun who was represented by his Head of Service, Mr. Kehinde Onasanya, worthy sons and daughters of the State who lived lives of dedication to service, integrity and pursuit of a better society like the Late Madam Oyagbola would continue to be celebrated and given a pride of place in the history of the State.
Describing Chief (Mrs.) Oyagbola as more than just a name in the history of Nigeria, the Governor said she was a force to be reckoned with as the country's first female Cabinet Minister, who shattered barriers and paved the way for many women to take their rightful places in governance, while her role as Nigeria's Ambassador to Mexico further solidified her legacy as a diplomat who represented the nation with dignity and grace on the global stage.
"The contributions of Late Chief (Mrs.) Oyagbola to Ogun State and particularly her beloved Yewaland, remain indelible. As the Iyalode of Yewaland, she was a mother, mentor, and pillar of strength to many. She championed gender equality, education and socio-political inclusion long before they became mainstream concerns. Her life embodied resilience, vision and commitment to justice and progress.
"For us as a State, her passing is a great loss, not just to her family but to Ogun State, Nigeria and indeed the entire African continent. However, we take solace in the fact that she lived a life of impact, service and dedication to the greater good of the people of the nation and humanity", Gov. Abiodun said.
In a sermon, the Bishop of Yewa Anglican Diocese, Rt. Revd. Dr. Michael Oluwarohunbi, who ministered from Eccl. 9:10 enjoined the congregants to use their God-given gifts for humanity and glory of God, and added that any unused gift would expire as life itself expires when death comes calling.
He urged them to emulate the deceased who used her time, experience, wisdom, wealth and all her God given gifts to serve humanity and the propagation of exemplary life and living.
In an interview, the first son of the deceased, Barrister Bayo Oyagbola eulogised the virtues of her late mother to include integrity, steadfastness and service to humanity, one who impacted every soul who crossed her path positively.
Dignitaries who graced the funeral came from all walks of life to include the Senator representing Ogun West Senatorial District, Senator Olamilekan Adeola, former Minister of Foreign Affairs, HE, Geoffrey Onyeama, former Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Kola Bajomo, Co-founder, GTB plc, Mr. Fola Adeola, members of the State Executive Council, Elderstatemen and women, Council chairmen, retired Permanent Secretaries from the State and Federal government, amongst other notable Nigerians.
