The newly appointed sole administrator of Rivers State Ibok-Ete Ibas has confirmed the receipt of the withheld Federal Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) for the state.
Speaking at a meeting with the members of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) on Friday, March 21, Ibas said the funds have been released to the state.
Recall that a Federal High Court had barred the Central Bank of Nigeria and the nation’s Accountant General of the Federation from releasing the state’s statutory allocation from the federal account.
However, following the suspension of Governor Fubara and other elected officers in the state, the Attorney General of the Federation and minister of justice, Lateef Fagbemi assured that funds would be released to Ibas for the running of the state.
At his meeting with NULGE officials, Ibas said it is unexplainable that residents are not enjoying the benefits of the oil-rich state.
He also promised to prioritise the welfare and challenges of workers in the state.
“I feel the pain of the workers,” Ibas said.
