‘I can’t see Wike’s hand in what happened’, AGF absolves minister of involvement in Fubara’s ordeal

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike has been absolved of any involvement in the declaration of a State of Emergency in Rivers State and the suspension of Governor Siminalayi Fubara and lawmakers of the state by President Bola Tinubu.

Lateef Fagbemi, the Minister of Justice and the Attorney General of the Federation, said the state governor, Fubara is to be blamed for the outcome of the political crisis that lingered in Rivers.

Speaking during an interactive session with State House Correspondents on Wednesday, the AGF said Governor Fubara took laws into his hands when he destroyed the Rivers House of Assembly Complex, a state apparatus.

He said, “There are occasions when it comes to national issues. We have to come out plainly. Was Wike the one that asked the State Assembly to be demolished? I don’t see the hand of the Minister of the FCT in what happened.”

Also reviewing some of the decisions and directives of the Supreme Court on the Rivers crisis, Fagbemi said the apex court had concluded that there was no government in Rivers State.

He further stated that President Tinubu took a bold decision by suspending the governor and declaring a State of Emergency in Rivers State.

He also urged those who believe that the president’s action was wrong to wait for the decision of the National Assembly lawmakers on the matter.

“The President took a very bold decision. As things stand we have a duty to give maximum respect to the judgement of the Supreme Court.

“If the National Assembly feel what the President did was not okay, he will not have two third from the National Assembly. We are expecting that within 48 hours something will come out,” Fagbemi noted.
