The Hon. Commissioner, Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Ganiyu Hamzat has charged Vice Chairmen across the 20 Local Government Areas of the State to see their roles as one that is pivotal to growth and development at the grassroots.

The Commissioner who disclosed this at the 2-days orientation workshop organised in Abeokuta, themed; "Evolving Roles of Vice Chairmen in Grassroots Development," said Vice Chairmen were vital links between the government and the communities they were serving, adding that their responsibilities encompasses monitoring, collaboration, citizen engagement, promotion of social development, among others.

"The role of the Vice Chairman has evolved significantly. As Vice Chairmen, you are no longer just the second in command; you are change makers, and advocates for your communities," he said.

Hon. Hamzat enjoined them to collaborate with their Chairmen, and other stakeholders to support polices that would promote the ISEYA Mantra of Governor Abiodun-led administration.

In his remarks, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Dr. Rotimiolu Akinlesi, underscored the roles of Vice Chairmen at the grassroot as crucial to enhancing administrative capabilities for effective governance at the grassroots.

The resource persons; Permanent Secretary, (PS) Ogun State Hospital Management Board, Dr. Olayinka Elemide; Barrister Femi Odufowakan, Hon. Oluajo Ayoola; Rtd PS, Alhaji Kunle Adegbite dwelled on topics ranging from healthy living, office protocol, to the roles of Vice Chairmen in their localities.

Reacting, the Vice Chairmen, Ijebu East, Oyesanya Adetutu and his counterpart from Ogun Waterside, Olabode Ogunlana, expressed their gratitudes, saying the initiative would aid cordiality between them and their Chairmen for impactful governance at the grassroots.
