Ogun State Internal Revenue Service, OGIRS, has sensitised motorists on the importance of obtaining Third-Party Motor Insurance in order to be covered when the unexpected occurs on the road.
The Executive Chairman, Ogun State Internal Revenue Service (OGIRS), Mr. Olugbenga Olaleye, made this known during a live radio programme, saying the essence of the sensitisation was to enlighten motorists on the benefits of the policy, encouraging them to embrace the insurance so that they could live a life free of debt even after the unexpected happens while driving, since the liabilities of the damaged would be sorted out without delay.
Mr. Olaleye enlightened the vehicle owners that the first party was the motorist, who had approached an insurance company to obtain the document, saying the insurance company itself was the second party, while the road user who does not have any arrangements with the vehicle owners or the insurance company were the third party, he further explained that, if you have gotten your insurance policy in the State, it covers you when travelling to other States in as much as the document is original.
" The policy will take care of liabilities of the third party which could involve vehicle, life or other properties, among others, and be rest assured that you are covered since you have keyed into the scheme,’’ he said.
He also hinted that the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) is also actively involved in the enforcement, making sure that vehicle owners obtain the certificate and confirm if their document is genuine, while pleading to motorists not to cut corners in obtaining their insurance to avoid been penalised.
Represented by Head, Road Taxes, OGIRS, Mr. Ayodele Popoola, the Chairman, emphasised that the Third-Party Motor Insurance is legally binding, hence, the need for vehicle owners to obtain the document to allow them ply any road without fear of being caught by any enforcement agency such as Police Force, Vehicle Inspection Officers (VIO), as well as Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).
He noted that every motorist must visit OGIRS' offices across the State to register their vehicles and obtain their insurance document as soon as possible.
Speaking, the Lead Broker, Ogun State, Mr. Abayomi Babalola, said that, it was also a means of ease of doing business, which the Prince Dapo Abiodun led-administration initiated to make lives easier for motorists, explaining that the policy was a prerequisite for every vehicle owner due to the fact that the damages might cut across other vehicle owners, individuals, and government property, hence, the need for vehicle owners to insure in order to get covered in such situations.
