The land located along Idiroko on Ikorodu Road, was originally granted to Otunba Onakoya by the Federal Government on lease basis, with a temporary occupation licence issued in 1992.
In the letter written by his lawyer M.Y. Ogundele & Co.it was also stated that, following approval by the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing ,the annual rent for the land was set at 5000 Naira.
The ministry specifically instructed that no permanent structures should be built on the land and that any structures erected must be set back at least five meters from the expressway.
The letter further explains that Otunba Onakoya has constitently complied with these terms ,leading the Federal Ministry of Works to reassess the land's use. In November 2004, a letter of acknowledgement was issued in recognition of his compliaince.
It was also revealed that Otunba Onakoya made a 50-year upfront payment of rent to the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing despite only spending 20years on the land.
To Otunba Onakoya's surprise ,after investing over 2 billion Naira in developing the land and ensuring it complied with the terms and conditions of the grant, members of the Adekunle Mogba Family began harassing and intimidating him and his staff Claiming to be the owner of the land . They allegedly used police personnel and thugs to carry out these threats and as a law abiding citizen and a Chieftain in APC ,he decided not to take the law into his hand as the Adekunle Mogba Family did.
In the letter stated that his client did not received any notice from the Government and since the time of the approval nothing from Adekunle Mogba Family and it looks like a plan to grab the land unlawfully.
In light of the continuos harrasment and threats from the Adekunle Mogba Family, Otunba Onakoya has decided to relinquish the land, no longer wishing to maintain the grant.
He said, prefer to return the land to the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing, the lawful owner and landlord of the property to use it either for recreation or motor park for public used not that one family will just come and grabbed illegally.
