There is an impending disaster likely to occur in Anambra State where residents have been scooping diesel from a fallen tanker along the Onitsha-Awka-Enugu Expressway.
It was gathered that the 33,000-litre tanker heavily laden with diesel crashed around thhe Army Gate, Onitsha, the commercial city of Anambra State.
Following the incident which occurred on Friday at about 7.05 am while driver was trying to drive into a filling station, residents have taken the opportunity to scoop the product.
Sources said the driver of the vehicle lost control leading to the crash of the tanker and subsequent spilling of the diesel.
However, some operatives from the state fire service arrived at the scene of the incident to condone off residents and vehicles plying the route.
The fire fighters also sprayed some chemical foam substance on the area of the spilt product to avoid a fire outbreak.
With the traffic building up in the area, the State Fire chief, Chukwudi Chiketa said the driver of the tanker was trying to discharge its content at the filling station beside the army gate’s fence when it suddenly started rolling backwards.
He said, “The driver, according to the owner, didn’t engage the hand break. Before you know it, it started to roll and the driver who tried to jump out sustained a head injury.
“He was immediately rushed to the hospital for medical attention. The whole content was emptied. We thank God that no life was lost in the process,” Chiketa said.
