CMD CREATES PUBLIC AWARENESS ON COLORECTAL CANCER

Healthy lifestyle and routine medical checkups have been described as major factors in combating cancer.

The Chief Medical Director, Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital, Dr. Oluwabunmi Fatugase, stated this at a public awareness/sensitisation on Colorectal Cancer, organised by ‘Niola Cancer Care Foundation, at the Akarigbo’s Palace, Sagamu.

Dr. Fatugase said, colorectal cancer is common among both males and females, it is sometimes referred to as colon or rectal cancer depending on where it starts, enjoining people who are 50 and above to endeavour to go for cancer screening every 5years, saying that early detection saves lives.

‘’You are the product of what you eat, so, check your diet, take care of your health by exercising regularly and taking lots of fruits and vegetables to stay healthy,’’ she said.

The CMD appreciated the organisers, for the initiative, while urging people to take advantage of the upcoming free colorectal cancer screening in March, 2025.

In her welcome address, Executive Director and Cofounder, ‘Niola Cancer Care Foundation, Mrs. Eniola Akintunde, said the programme was to sensitise people about the IJOYA, (dancing, wellness and screening), and the free colonoscopy coming up in March, adding that the foundation would always advocate for a healthy lifestyle.

In his goodwill message, the Akarigbo and Paramount Ruler of Remoland, Oba Babatunde Ajayi represented by the Iloku of Iraye, Engr. Samuel Kalejaiye appreciated the Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) for the initiative, pledging his support for the free screening exercise.
