SPECIAL ADVISER INSPECTS INFRASTRUCTURE TO REVAMP WATER SERVICES

 



The Special Adviser to the Governor on Sustainable Development Goals and Water Resources, Hon. Damilola Otubanjo has conducted an inspection to key water infrastructure facilities in Abeokuta, to identify critical areas in need of upgrades and repairs, to revamp and improve service delivery.


During the inspection tour to the various facilities namely; Arakanga Main Water Scheme comprising New and Old, Adatan booster station, Oke-Temidire Reservoir, Alamala, Panseke, Ibara booster stations respectively and Abeokuta Area Office, Hon. Otubanjo assured that the major water treatment plants, reservoirs, and distribution networks in Abeokuta and its environs would receive adequate government intervention.


" This inspection has provided valuable insights into the state of our facilities, there is need for proper maintenance, need for more manpower, there are lots of infrastructure to work on urgently because we are committed to making the necessary investments by using advance technology to modernise these systems to ensure reliable and safe water for all, " Hon. Otubanjo stated. 


She commended the staffers at the various facilities for their dedication despite the challenges and resource limitation, assuring them of government’s support to address issues such as outdated equipment, pipe leakages, and limited capacity. 


The Consultant to the Governor on Water, Alhaja Muinat Jaji, revealed that a comprehensive report from the inspection would guide the implementation of strategic reforms, saying that water production was not limited to Abeokuta but there are other existing surfaced schemes that supplies Papalanto, Ota, ljebu-ode Yemoji, Apoje water works respectively.


She said there were different boreholes schemes spread across the state for production of potable water to the people, while urging the populace to pay their bills promptly and give timely information on burst pipes in their communities to ensure prompt repair and prevent water contamination.


" Most of our customers were cut-off but we are compiling lists to ensure we install water to the community, but you will agree with me that water production is not something you can do with a little amount of money, our people should trust Governor Dapo Abiodun that they will get water but has to be in phases,"Jaji said. 


One of the customers, Olanrewaju Nofisat in Obantoko Area, Abeokuta attested to free-flow of clean and potable water in their area, saying the pre-paid metering gave ease passage of making use of water.


Also commending the State Government, Chairman of worker's Estate, Arc. Sulaiman Oladipo Laderin, Abeokuta, appreciated government for its preparedness to repair the leaked pipes in the estate.
