Senate leader, 2 govs affected as Wike finally revokes land allocations of top politicians

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, has revoked land allocations belonging to several prominent figures, including Bayelsa State Governor Senator Douye Diri, Imo State Governor Senator Hope Uzodimma, Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele, and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Secretary Senator Samuel Anyanwu.

This action follows the expiration of an extended grace period for the affected individuals to settle their Certificate of Occupancy (C-of-O) bills for plots located in Maitama II, Cadastral Zone A10, Abuja.

According to Lere Olayinka, media aide to the FCT Minister, 568 land allottees had their Right of Occupancy (R-of-O) withdrawn after failing to meet the payment deadline.

Other notable individuals impacted include former Governor of Enugu State Chimaroke Nnamani, Senate Minority Leader Abba Moro, and Chairman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa.

In October 2024, the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) issued a notice to 3,273 allottees, granting a two-week ultimatum to settle outstanding payments.

While 2,511 complied, the remaining 762 were given an additional two-week grace period. However, as of January 15, 2025, only 194 of these allottees had completed their payments, leaving 568 in default.

The revocation notice issued by the FCTA cites Section 28 of the Land Use Act of 1978, which permits the withdrawal of land rights for non-compliance with grant terms.

The notice clarified that title holders who completed their payments by January 15, 2025, remain unaffected.
