Promote Gender Equality In Your Reportage - Ogun Commissioner Enjoins Journalists



Men of the pen profession have been charged to always promote and disseminate policies and programmes that promote gender equality noting that gender equality should not be a goal but a reality.


The Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Hon. Adijat Adeleye gave the charge January Monthly Congress of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Ogun State Information Chapel held at the Olusegun Osoba Press Centre, Oke Mosan, Abeokuta. 


Delivering a pep talk with the topic, "the Role of Information Officers/Public Relations Officers in Promoting Gender Equality", Hon. Adeleye said in order to achieve an inclusive society, gender equality cannot be over emphasized noting that Information Officers should see themselves as change agent and live above the stereotype ways of disseminating information to the public.


"I want all men of the pen profession to see their pen as an instrument of change which must be used in promoting and disseminating gender equality programmes so that men would not see their women counterpart as competitors but to compliment each other so as to achieve inclusion in our society".


The Commissioner appreciated the commitment of Prince Dapo Abiodun led administration in closing the gap on gender equality with the recent upgrade of three female Senior Special Assistants to the position of Special Advisers and also opportunities given to one thousand girls to benefit from technology Skill training to enable them  match up with their male counterpart in the profession.


While commending the leadership of the Chapel for thinking ahead to put up such pep talk to add value to its members, the Commissioner advised them to move beyond the conventional journalism and key into the new trend of social media to publize  government activities as the state was doing much and people need to know.


Earlier, the Chairman of the Chapel, Comrade Femi Osipitan commended the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development for its efforts at giving the women a voice in the society.
