The 236 Councillors from the 20 Local Government Areas of Ogun State, have been admonished not be materialistic but to be dedicated in serving their people and refrain from using their Offices to amass wealth.

This charge was given by the Speaker, Ogun State House of Assembly, RT. Hon. Oludaisi Elemide at A day Orientation Programme for councillors in the local government councils, themed; ‘’Repositioning the Legislative Arm of the Local Government Councils for optimal delivery,’’ organised by the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, in Abeokuta.

Earlier in his address, Commissioner in the Ministry, Hon. Ganiyu Hamzat, said elected representatives, has the duty to ensure that, governance at the local level is transparent, accountable and effective.

"The legislative arm of local government plays a key role in ensuring that, policies are not only made, but are implemented in a manner that delivers tangible benefits to the people," he said.

Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Dr. Rotimiolu Akinlesi added that, the orientation was an avenue for the councillors to learn, unlearn and relearn, saying it was key to ensuring seamless work relationship between them and their Local Government Chairmen.

 Some of the participants at the programme, Hon. Abiodun Olusanjo from Ajebo ward, Obafemi Owode Local Government and Hon. Soyingbe Folohunsho, Ijofi/Idosa ward, Ipokia Local Government, expressed their gratitude, saying the programme had impacted them in no small measure on how best to deliver on their mandates.
