OGUN HoS EXTOLS THE VIRTUES OF LATE DIJI AKINHANMI

 


The Late General Manager of the Ogun State Broadcasting Corporation (OGBC), Mr. Diji Akinhanmi has been described as a quintessential personality of immense stature and values, whose contributions to journalism, broadcasting and media management in Ogun State and beyond would ever remain indelible.


The Head of Service, Mr. Kehinde Onasanya, eulogized the virtues of the late iconic broadcaster at the 5th memorial lecture themed: "Media Management in Challenging Times" organised in his remembrance by the management of the ace broadcasting corporation, OGBC held at the station's hall in Ibara, Abeokuta.


Mr. Onasanya who chaired the occasion submitted that it is impossible to talk about journalism and media excellence in the State without mentioning the name, Diji Akinhanmi, and said he was not just a broadcaster of excellence but also a seasoned media practitioner whose professionalism and well research - based reportage distinguished him among his peers.


He said the late Akinhanmi's ability to blend deep research with impeccable storytelling made his reports compelling and impactful.


Mr. Onasanya said he was a man of great intellect, a socialite and a committed unionist who was deeply passionate about his profession, and added that the theme of the lecture was timely and significant as a reflection of the late Akinhanmi's contributions to the field of journalism, and urged the practitioners to continue to uphold and sustain his legacies.


"His courage, bluntness and humility made him not just respected but also admired by colleagues and friends alike. His ability to articulate his views clearly and stand by his principles, even when they were unpopular, was a mark of true leadership", the HoS said.


On his part, the Guest Lecturer, Prof. Jendele Hungbo, a broadcaster of high repute and  professor of journalism and media studies at the Kola Daisi University, Ibadan analysed the challenges of the media and its practitioners amongst which are epileptic power supply, funding, personnel, political influence among others and proffered solutions to the identified challenges, which if adhered to will turn the practice around for the better.


General Manager of the station, Mrs Toyin Sogbesan, in her remarks stated that the annual memorial lecture was not only a tribute to the legacy of the impact of the deceased but equally an avenue to remember his relentless efforts at developing the station.


Responding on behalf of the deceased family, an Uncle, Dr. Akin Akinhanmi expressed his appreciation to the management of the station for sustaining the annual lecture, which according to him has contributed greatly to the growth of the media profession.


The memorial lecture attracted the presence of the deceased family, his colleagues in the media profession among whom are Dr. Niran Malaolu,  Dr. Yemisi Bamgbose, Executive Secretary, Broadcasting Organisations of Nigeria (BON),  Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Communication, Hon. Kayode Akinmade and the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Information and Strategy, Mr . Waheed Adesina, among others.
