Ogun State Government has warned traders to desists from displaying their wares on setbacks and along pedestrian bridges within the State capital.
The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Environment, Dr. Sam. Oyeleye, made this known in a statement in his office at Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.
Dr. Oyeleye urged residents to work in tandem with the State government to achieve a safe and clean environment, adding that the present administration was determined to ensure safety of life by insisting that setbacks should be maintained on the major roads.
"The security of the citizen is primary, safety on the road should be ensured by curbing trading on setback. Markets have to be clean and we have to conserve our green areas", the Permanent Secretary said.
He explained that, when traders display their wares on walkways, they force the pedestrians to walk on the roads which might cause accident, urging the Iyalojas and Babalojas to collaborate with the State government to achieve its responsibility at ensuring sanity in market places.
Dr. Oyeleye reiterated that, warning have been sent out severally but people were recalcitrant, saying that the Ministry had decided to be all out for this unscrupulous act. He noted that, the agency was ready to enforce the law with the introduction of Mobile Court, to try and punish any trader who failed to comply with the Environmental laws.
