The minister of information and national orientation, Mohammed Idris has said that President Bola Tinubu or his reforms are not responsible for the multiple stampede that has led to the loss of lives in three locations across Nigeria.
In a statement issued by Rabiu Ibrahim, the Special Assistant (Media) to the Minister of Information and National Orientation, the minister condoles with families and loved ones of the victims of the calamities which happened in Ibadan, Oyo state; Okija, Anambra State and Abuja, FCT.
Ibrahim stating that the minister described the tragedies as deeply saddening said, the incidents underscore the importance of ensuring proper crowd management during such charitable activities, especially during the festive season.
He further urged organisers seeking to ameliorate the growing hardship in the country to adhere to directives reeled out by the Inspector General of Police in carrying out such activity.
Further urging politicians, groups and individuals to desist from politicising the incidents, the minister said these tragic events are in no way connected to the economic reforms of President Tinubu’s administration.
He said, “It is worth noting that similar unfortunate occurrences have been recorded in the past, before the current administration, as such, making any attempt to link these tragedies to the President’s reforms is unfounded and disingenuous.”
