The Chairman of the Ogun State Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Comrade Wale Olanrewaju, has officially inaugurated the Ogun East NUJ Independent Chapel, designed to serve the pen professionals in the Ogun East Senatorial District.
The inauguration took place at the Grand Inn Hotel in Ijebu-Ode, with key stakeholders present to witness the long-awaited launch of the new chapel.
In his address, Comrade Wale Olanrewaju urged members of the chapel to uphold the core values of journalism, particularly the pursuit of truth.
"As journalists, professionalism is crucial in the performance of our duties. Let us uphold the tenets of accountability, maintain our integrity, and refrain from sensationalism in our reporting," he emphasized.
He also highlighted the importance of making the union more accessible to members in Ogun East, noting that the challenges of traveling to Abeokuta for general meetings would now be reduced.
The Guest Lecturer, Professor Obatunde Bright Adetola of the Department of Sociology at Olabisi Onabanjo University, spoke on the significance of character in fostering sustainable entrepreneurial journalism.
Key highlight of the event was the investiture of Dr. Gloria Laraba Shoda as the Matron of the chapel.
Additionally, the State NUJ Chairman inaugurated a Screening and Credentials Committee, which will be led by Comrade Abiodun Lawal. The committee will oversee the official processes of electing executives to various positions within the chapel in accordance with the union's constitution.
