In a bid to enhance food production and create more employment opportunities, Ogun State Government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Lee Group Subsidiaries, Sun Crop Agriculture Limited and Sun Giant Limited.
The MOU, aims to promote cotton and rice cultivation as well as processing, in Eggua and Iwoye, under Yewa North and Imeko Afon Local Government Areas of the state.
Speaking during the signing ceremony, Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Hon. Bolu Owotomo, explained that the MOU involves the allocation of 50 hectares of land in Eggua to Sun Giant Limited, for Rice cultivation, with another 50 hectares of land for cotton cultivation allocated to Sun Crop Agriculture Limited, under a pilot scheme, to verify the suitability of the land.
Owotomo pointed out that the MOU, aligns with Prince Dapo Abiodun's objectives, to make the State a hub for agro-based industrialists, thereby enhancing the state's food system. According to him, the companies would provide infrastructure worth N1 billion, including access roads and corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives, which would benefit the host community.
Facilitator of the MOU and member representing Yewa North and Imeko Afon Federal Constituencies, Hon. Gboyega Nasir Isiaka thanked the state's agricultural team and the Governor, for making the MOU a reality, noting that the project signifies the state's commitment to industrial development.
He said the project would begin in February 2025 with a pilot scheme, expanding further as it progresses.
Deputy General Manager of Lee Group, Liu Fei and Director of Agriculture, Dr. Umar Mohammed Maja, appreciated the state government for encouraging investors to establish businesses, assuring that the projects would have a positive impact and foster economic growth of the state.
