Yewa North Legislative Council (YNLC) has passed resolutions banning the use of council official plate numbers by unauthorised persons and the habit of driving against traffic, thereby endangering lives of people across the council area.
The resolutions came as a result of a letter sent to the Legislative Council by the Chairman Yewa North, Dr. Olusola Akinbode seeking urgent resolution to the council safety matters. The letter was read by the leader Hon. Stephen Adeogun and supported by the whole House, through a voice vote, at the plenary held at Odebiyi Legislative Chamber, Ayetoro.
Part of the resolutions detailed further that, security and other appropriate agencies should step up measures towards enforcing the laws, as well as illegal parking, common across the Council area. The resolutions also called for withdrawal and submission of all plate numbers in the possession of unauthorised persons, to the council within 14 days ultimatum.
Contributing, Honourable members including Hon. Ebenezer Odebo, Hon. Rasheed Alase, Hon. Julius Adeniyi and Majority Leader, Hon. Naimu Olaleye, said it was imperative for security agencies to support the Council in checkmating the growing illegalities in the usage of official plate numbers particularly by ex-political office holders in the council area so as to restore law and order.
The Councillors explained that such official plate numbers in the custody of unauthorised persons, could be used to perpetuate crimes and criminalities in the society, adding that illegal parking at Dangote Cement Factory, Ibese had become public embarrassment while the habit of driving against the traffic should end, so as to attract More investors and promote development.
