A foundation known as DSS Foundation has organized football competition for the youths in Odogbolu Local Government, Ogun State to take the youths off the streets.
The competition held on Saturday at the Tai Solarin University , Ijebu-Ode Local Government, Ogun State.
Dr. Seun Sokan while speaking with newsmen appealed to the federal government to prioritise sports to create more jobs for the teeming youths.
Our correspondent reports that the football competition was organized by the Foundation to engage youths positively and build their capacity through sports.
The foundation's founder who is also a philanthropist added that the government needs to step up and give the sports sector a premium priority so that youths can be empowered and their lives would be improved.
Dr. Sokan informed that the competition is in line with the agenda of the foundation in terms of giving back to the society and creating a better tomorrow for the youth.
He lamented that talented youths are denied a chance to reap from their talents, as a result of poor sports management in the country.
Dr. Sokan urged the Federal Government to take swift and decisive action to address the vital issue.
He said" The Foundation competition is put together to positively engage our youths and avail them opportunity to showcase their talent to the world, I know that there are lots of untapped talents which this competition will bring out, and that is my major focus. The competition may offer life time opportunities for some of the players where their talent might be scouted and from there begin to make a good living out of the round leather game, apart from this competition, DSS foundation has also touched many lives positively within the community through several empowerments, elderly and widows have also benefited from our kind gesture.
"I want to appeal to the federal government to prioritise sports in creating employment for the youths, sports have helped many youths uplift their standards of living in the country. The best the government can do is to ensure that the sports docket is well funded. Monies allocated to it to facilitate various sporting events should be prudently used for the good of the sporting youths.The government needs to step up and give the sports sector a premium priority, since more youths can be empowered and their lives improved. It’s appalling when talented youths are denied a chance to reap from their talents, as a result of poor sports.
After the final football competition the foundation presented cash the following , three hundred and fifty thousand naira for the first runner, two hundred thousand naira for the second runner and third runner got hundred thousand naira.
Others who also recieved Cash are the highest goal scorer, Man of the match, most valuable player , best coach of the tournament and best goal keeper
