Determined to provide more accessible road at the grassroots, Ogun State government through Rural Access And Agricultural Marketing Project (RAAMP), has opened yet another bid of two lots: 4.8km Ajura-Otunba Village and 6.3km Paraga rural roads in Remo North Local Government, as well as rehabilitation of 6.87km Isamuru road in Ago-Iwoye, Ijebu-East LG, respectively.
This was in addition to the seven lots recently opened, which included, three rural roads and four markets for construction and rehabilitation.
Speaking during the bid opening in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Rural Development, Mr. Oluwaseyi Sokoya, said the exercise would also serve as a way in addressing food security and reducing post-harvest losses for farmers.
He stated that, "Constructing and rehabilitating of rural roads will help the farmers to reach out to their customers promptly, thereby reducing post-harvest losses and improving their purchasing power, ultimately giving them good and decent living".
On his part, State Project Coordinator, RAMMP, Engr. Waheed Adejumo, noted that the project's objective was to improve standard of living in the rural areas, through provision of good road network, towards eradicating poverty.
Adejumo stated that, “Urban residents depend on the farm produce of the rural dwellers, and if the roads are not in good shape, there will be a shortage of food in the urban areas. Also, the roads will not only bring economic prosperity but hasten development among the communities".
