WORLD TEACHERS' DAY: SAGAMU HONOURS OUTSTANDING EDUCATORS, LEADERS


In celebration of World Teachers’ Day, the Academic Staff Union of Secondary Schools (ASUSS) in Sagamu Local Government Area of Ogun State, has honoured some teachers for their outstanding contributions to the advancement of education and dedication to duties.


Speaking during the event with the theme, "Valuing Teacher Voices", at Remo Divisional High School Hall, Sagamu, the state ASUSS Chairman, Comrade Felix Agbesanwa, described teachers as mentors and a moulder, saying, "Nobody can do without teachers, they are tutors, helpers and motivators for many to fulfill destiny in life”.


Comrade Agbesanwa urged teachers to live up to expectations, continue to support the state and local governments by being the platform for developmental knowledge for their students.  


In his remarks, the Chairman, ASUSS Sagamu Branch, Comrade Ayodeji Afuwape, stated that the aim of the celebration was to motivate educators and promote excellence in the sector.


"We are committed to recognising and rewarding our members, who have demonstrated exceptional dedication and commitment to their duties", he said.


Comrade Ayodeji, who expressed gratitude to the sponsors and partners, urged educators to continue to deliver quality education and recommit to shared mission by empowering students, enriching communities, as well as transforming lives through education, despite challenges facing the sector.


On his part, the Odofin of Soyindo, Oba Lasisi Gisanrin, represented by Baale Adedokun Egbarin, said the gesture was a good initiative, appealing to teachers not to relent in imparting knowledge, encouraging the Union to always involve the royal fathers in the development of the sector.


Mrs. Adeniyi Esther (Female Category) and Mr. Onajobi Temitope (Male Category) who were honoured as the best teachers 2023/2024 Academic Session applauded the Union for the recognition, saying the recognition was a call to service.


Remarking, retired Principals, Ogunlesi Memorial School, Sagamu, Mr. Soile Adekunle and Remo Secondary School, Sagamu, Comrade Iyabo Ogunyanwo, among other awardees, appreciated the organisers for the honour, promising to continue to contribute their quota to the development of the sector.


Highlights of the celebration included an inter-school quiz competition and presentation of glucometres to all public secondary schools in the area.
