Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has revealed plans to increase the minimum wage for workers in the state to N85,000.
The announcement was made during an interview on Channels TV on Wednesday evening in a program titled “One-On-One with Babajide Sanwo-Olu.”
The governor stated that this decision followed discussions with labor unions in Lagos.
According to him, the increase was based on the state’s “affordability and capacity” to support its workers and not as a competitive move against other states.
“It’s not a competition, so I’m not going to say that we’re paying more than some other people; it’s a function of affordability and a function of capacity,” he said.
He further stated that the wage adjustment aims to improve the welfare of Lagos State’s workforce amid growing economic challenges
