PROPOSED GAS STATION: OGHA COMMITTEE SEEKS INCLUSION OF COMMUNITY TO MONITOR COMPLIANCE TO SAFETY GUIDELINES




 


The residents of Oke- Adefisan, a community between Odoogbolu and Ijebu-Ode have been reassured by the Ogun State House of Assembly that the Gas Company being sited within the area would jointly be monitored by the representatives of the host community, the regulatory agencies in the oil and gas sector, officials of the State Physical Planning and the members of the House Committee on Environment to ensure total compliance with all safety regulations before opening for business.


The Chairman, House Committee on Environment, Hon. Samsideen Lawal, gave the assurance during a parley between the management of the proposed Petrocam Trading Company, Dr. Patrick Ilo and the Community representatives led by Prince Tola Oshunlaja at the Assembly Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.


The House Committee Chairman counselled the management of the gas company to ensure that all stakeholders were carried along in the construction and installation of all safety measures being put in place by the company.


Other lawmakers who spoke at the meeting including the Assembly Minority Leader Lukman Adeleye, Honourables Adebisi Oyedele and Waliu Owode enjoined the company to go a step further to insure the properties around the company and make sure that the process of installation of its underground tank followed all the necessary safety guidelines.


In his remarks, the representative of the host community thanked the Assembly for being responsive and proactive in its intervention, promising to work together with the company to ensure that all safety precautions were strictly adhere to.


Responding, the company's representative, Dr.Ilo lauded the lawmakers for bringing the stakeholders together for the parley, pledging that the company would consistently engage the community as the construction and installation of the various equipment commence.
