Towards ensuring ease of doing business in the road transport sector for relief of the harsdsip experienced as a result of the dwindling economy of the country, The Dapo Abiodun led Administration in Ogun State has again reiterated it's commitment and intervention by reducing the cost of levies imposed on drivers of commercial mini buses popularly known as 'Korope' plying Mowe- Ibafo -Arepo - Magboro routes by the transport Unions in the axis.
Recall that a peaceful protest was embarked upon by the aggrieved drivers in Abeokuta on Tuesday,24th of September,over multiple transport levies, and to which as reported in the Punch of Friday, 27th of September, was resolved by the State Government after much deliberations.
At the early hours of yesterday, the Honourable Commissioner For Transportation Engr Dairo Olugbenga and his team was informed by the representative of the mini bus drivers, Mr Abiodun Owolabi, of the distortion of the resolutions made and agreed upon between the State Government and a tier of the Union, on the reduction of transport levies .
Responding, The Honourable Commissioner For Transportation in the State, Engr Dairo Olugbenga, The Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation Hon. Adebiyi Abiodun and The State Chairman of the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria, Alhaji Akibu Titilayo ( Efele ) reminded the Union of the resolutions agreed upon after the initial protest of the agrieved drivers.
" We have agreed that a single tickets of five hundred naira per day as being collected by the established motor garages be sustained , immediate stoppage of marking and Marker fee collection from Ogun State Vehicles, Piecing a single ticket into multiples can aid fraudulent act and must be stop immediately, and vandalisation of vehicles is prohibited". Engr Dairo recoined.
Speaking earlier , the park manager OGSPAM who identified himself as Mr Simple, explained that yesterday's tension was as a result of communication gap on the part of the Union who is on duty for this week and to which has been filled immediately,with confirmation that sanity has been restored, he also said that there are three established motor garages in the routes with proper records of passengers and loaded vehicles on daily basis.
