Adeboye apologises for controversial statement on tithing and salvation for christians

Pastor Enoch Adeboye, General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, has publicly apologised for his controversial assertion that some Christians may not reach heaven if they do not pay tithes.

In a video that has since gone viral, the 82-year-old cleric acknowledged that his previous claim was incorrect and lacked biblical support.

“I apologise for saying ‘If you don’t pay tithe, you might not make it to heaven.’ I’m sorry, that’s wrong, and it’s not in the Bible,” Adeboye stated while addressing his congregation.

He went on to clarify the scriptural basis for salvation, emphasising, “What the Bible says is ‘Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see God.’”

In his apology, Adeboye also challenged the traditional view of tithing, suggesting that it is inappropriate to restrict church members to a 10% contribution.

“It is wrong to limit some of my church members to 10% when they should be paying 20% or 30% as tithes. Ten percent should be for beginners,” he explained.

The pastor further illustrated his point by referencing scientific discoveries, stating, “It is possible to be right and wrong at the same time… I believe God will give me an opportunity very soon to give you the details.”

Adeboye’s comments have ignited discussions among his followers and critics alike, highlighting the complexities surrounding religious teachings and financial obligations.
