“We’ll accept Edo election outcome if properly conducted” – Obaseki tells CDS

Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki has said he is committed to accepting the results of a properly conducted election, provided citizens are allowed to freely vote for the candidates of their choice.

This comes as the state gears up for its gubernatorial election scheduled for this Saturday, September 21, 2024.

Governor Obaseki made this clear after a meeting with the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Gwabin Musa, aimed at addressing concerns over security and fairness during the election.

In a post shared via his official X handle, Obaseki expressed confidence in the security apparatus and stressed the importance of a peaceful, non-partisan process.

“I believe the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Gwabin Musa, is better positioned than anyone else to understand the national security implications of the Edo gubernatorial election,” Obaseki noted.

Governor Obaseki emphasized the achievements of his administration in enhancing security in Edo State, stating, “For 8 years, the security forces in the state have been highly cooperative… Together, we have established Forward Operating Bases and designed a digitised security architecture that has made Edo one of the safest states in the nation.”

With this statement, the governor reassured Edo citizens that the election would not compromise the progress made in terms of security, urging everyone to freely exercise their voting rights.

Obaseki concluded by reiterating his commitment to a free and fair election: “We are not asking for any favour but are stating that Edo citizens should be free to go to the polls to elect the candidates of their choice. We will accept the outcome of a properly conducted election.”
