There is a lot of suffering” – Yoruba Council of Elders urges Tinubu to address hardship

The Yoruba Council of Elders (YCE) has expressed deep concern over Nigeria’s current socio-economic challenges and has called on President Bola Tinubu to address the escalating hardships Nigerians face.

In a statement issued on Thursday, Oladipo Oyewole, the General Secretary of the YCE, said there is an urgent need for government action to alleviate the widespread difficulties affecting daily life.

“The YCE remains hopeful that Nigeria will experience a turnaround. However, based on the limited information available about government activities, there is currently a significant level of suffering among the populace,” the statement read.

Oyewole pointed out the critical issues contributing to the hardship, including the lack of reliable electricity supply and the recent increase in fuel prices.

He stressed that these issues have exacerbated the struggles of ordinary Nigerians, leading to heightened daily living challenges.

“The Federal Government should immediately explore all avenues to ensure that the benefits of democracy reach the people effectively.

“This should not be through superficial palliatives but by implementing measures that enhance proper and quality living through effective governance,” Oyewole said.

“The President should urgently revisit his strategies to address the immediate needs of Nigerians while continuing to work towards long-term improvements,” Oyewole added.

The YCE called for immediate action to boost the welfare of the population and ensure that all citizens can live comfortably and harmoniously.

The statement also criticized the current state of governance, describing it as a “bitter pill” for the nation.

It urged President Tinubu’s administration to act swiftly to manage and mitigate the suffering of the people.
