Butchers Association in Sagamu Local Government Area of Ogun State have been enjoined to ensure clean abattoir, proper disposal of animal wastes to prevent outbreak of cholera diseases among others.
The Acting Head of the Local Government Administration (HOLGA), Mr. Rotimi Opeodu, stated this during his visit to some abattoirs in the area, noted that cholera could kill faster than any other diseases, if people were unhygienic with their food, appreciating the state government for its prompt response to containing the spread of the disease in the state.
Mr. Opeodu encouraged stakeholders on the need to always maintain personal and environmental hygiene by using health kits, like apron, hand gloves, good covering materials and potable water in cleaning and preparing meat for safe consumption, stressing that a healthy environment would breed a wealthy people.
He advised butchers to always comply with health officers’ instructions and cooperate with them, towards achieving a conducive business environment that would enhance socio-economic landscape of the area.
