OGUN GOVT MOVES TO ENHANCE THE CAPACITY OF INFORMATION MANAGERS




 


Information dissemination in Government Circle as it affects policies and programmes through the media to the General Public are so fragile and sensitive that it cannot be toiled with.


The Head of Service, Mr. Kehinde Onasanya made this known while declaring a two-day  training programme tagged “Up scaling Public Information Management through Strategic Public Relations” organized by the Bureau of Establishments and Training, Office of the Head of Service, for Information/Public Relation Officers in government Ministries, Departments and Agencies at the Obas’ Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.


Mr. Onasanya said the training is imperative to improve the practice of the Information/Public Relations Officer in enhancing effective governance in Ogun State and thanked the Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun for investing in capacity building of all cadres of the workforce 


“We must all realize that the World of Information Management for Government Institutions has changed dramatically from how it was practiced compare to the era of ICT that we are now “Onasanya said.


He urged the participants to utilize transition from the industrial age of practice to the knowledge age, driven by kinetics of information Technology and the social media as its by-product to ply their business for excellence and productivity that would enhance their career while manning their beats with enormous competence and reliability despite operational challenges.


The number one Civil Servant added that the training also aimed at promoting efficiency and effective work ethics among the media managers and as well address core areas of information management including creating a good feedback mechanism in order to bridge the gap between the government and the governed.


In his speech,  the Special adviser to governor on Information and Communication, Hon. Kayode Akinmade in his Keynote Address said the training is necessary as lots of information management gap has been noticed in the State and the lapses discovered ranges from lack of requisite knowledge, expertise, limited roles by the information handlers among others, adding that the training would provide the necessary needs to excel in their statutory duties.


Hon. Akinmade encouraged the participants to always ensure that government is constantly in touch with the people through the media as the media space left unused would be utilized by the distractors.


Earlier in her welcome address, the Permanent Secretary, Bureau of Establishments and Training, Mrs. Lydia Fajounbo said the primary responsibility of the agency is to build capacity of the workforce for excellent service delivery and this training is essential for government image projection through accuracy reporting of its programmes and policies, adding that media managers need to be equipped with skills to meet today’s demand for optional performance by the concerned officers, adding that arrays of media  gurus and Public Relation experts have been engaged to take the participants through carefully selected topics.


Various good will messages were given by crème-de la crème in the information management across the State and other Stakeholders such as Mr. Demola Badejo, one time Permanent Secretary/Clerk of the Ogun State House of Assembly,  Chief  Fassy Yusuf, former  commissioner for information, Dr. Niran Malaolu a one time Commisioner for information, Hon Tunde Tella, Chairman House Committee on Establishments and Training, and his counterparts in the Information and Education, Hon. Segun Kaka appreciated governor Dapo Abiodun for the priviledge to train the information managers across the State now and urged the participants to give their best to learn, relearn and unlearn as well as engage more with the Public to feel their pulse while creating positive image for government in disseminating information about its policies and programmes.


The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Information, Mr. Waheed Adesina thanked the governor, Head of Service for the opportunity given to the information officers to be trained so that they can be alive to their statutory duties of projecting government activities positively and promptly.
