Senator Basheer Lado, Special Adviser to the President on Senate Matters, has praised Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun’s appointment as the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), describing it as a demonstration of President Bola Tinubu’s respect for seniority and merit within the judiciary.

Lado emphasised that President Tinubu’s decision reflects his adherence to the judiciary’s appointment guidelines and showcases his commitment to maintaining high standards of judicial excellence.

“The appointment of Justice Kekere-Ekun not only highlights her pedigree but also underscores the President’s respect for seniority and merit in the judiciary,” Lado said.

He also pointed out that Tinubu’s continuous reforms in the judiciary, including appointing 11 justices to the Supreme Court bench, reflect his administration’s drive to ensure swift justice for all Nigerians.

“For the first time, the Supreme Court has reached its full capacity of 21 justices. This is a testament to President Tinubu’s dedication to a revamped judiciary,” Lado remarked.

In addition, Lado applauded the Senate’s speedy confirmation of Kekere-Ekun’s appointment, citing it as a mark of collaboration between the Executive and the Legislature.

“The 10th Senate has shown unwavering support for the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda, ensuring the smooth implementation of policies that benefit all Nigerians.”

He further noted that Tinubu’s signing of the Bill to increase judicial officers’ salaries was another significant step in improving the country’s justice system.
