Guber election: Okpebholo under fire for saying he will “bring insecurity to Edo state”

The Edolites For Peace and Progress, a leading socio-political advocacy group, has criticized Senator Monday Okpebholo, the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, for his alarming statement that he would “bring insecurity” to Edo State.

The controversial comment, made during an APC rally ahead of the upcoming September 21 governorship election, has sparked widespread outrage.

In a viral video, Okpebholo is seen addressing supporters and making the shocking declaration, which some of his supporters say was a slip of the tongue.

Speaking at a press conference in Benin City, Madam Adesua Odigie, the leader of Edolites For Peace and Progress, stated, “This was not a slip of the tongue; Okpebholo meant what he said, and that is exactly what makes it so terrifying. A man who openly talks about bringing insecurity to the state has no place in government.”

Odigie warned that Okpebholo’s statement was a reflection of the APC’s governance style, accusing the party of using insecurity as a tool of oppression in other states.

She urged Edo voters to reject the APC and its candidate to safeguard the peace and progress of the state.

“We must say no. Edo is a land of peace and progress, and we will not allow insecurity to take root here,” she declared.
