GOV. ABIODUN PLEDGES SUSTENANCE OF SEPARATION OF POWERS

The present administration will continue to foster an environment conducive for the rule of law and harmony with other branches of government within the framework of the separation of powers as enshrined in the Constitution.

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, made this known during a Special Church Service ushering in the 2024/2025 Legal Year, at the Cathedral Church of St. Peter, Ake, Abeokuta, describing the Judiciary as a bedrock of democracy, beacon of fairness, integrity and independence.

Governor Abiodun expressed hope in the individual and collective capability of the members of the Ogun State Judiciary to fulfil their constitutional duties, called on the Judiciary to address the lingering backlog of cases, explore alternative methods of dispute resolution like arbitration and mediation, urging judges in the state Judiciary to reciprocate his administration's support with better service delivery and a heightened sense of duty.

On Laderin-Train Station Road in Abeokuta, Governor Abiodun disclosed that it would soon be completed by his administration, as the construction of the project had been awarded, affirming that construction of two big box culverts(mini-bridges) that would channel water from the road had been completed, just as the earth work and drains would soon commence.

"Though, we didn't understand why a train station was built without an access road as part of that project conception.

"However as a responsible government, we have taken it upon ourselves to award the contract leading to that train station and that contract is currently ongoing and will be completed very soon", he said.

In his message titled, "Let Justice Flow", the Archbishop, African Church, Most Revd. Solomon Ojomu, who read from the book of Amos 5 verse 21-23, noted that the country needs impartial judges to deliver good judgments, added that judges in the modern day should act like judges in Bible who fought for the oppressed in the society.

The Archbishop, who urged judicial officers to administer justice without fear or favour, citing biblical examples of wise leaders like Solomon, acknowledged the challenges faced by the judiciary and encouraged them to strive for excellence, administer quick dispense of justice, urging them to continue to do their best for the society.
