Amid the ongoing nationwide protests against hardship, Nigerians have resurfaced an old video of the current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, where he criticised the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for its comments on continuing the legacies of former President Muhammadu Buhari.
recalls that in 2022, some presidential aspirants from the ruling party, including President Bola Tinubu, had vowed that if elected, they would continue the “good work” of Buhari’s administration.
At the time, Wike, then Governor of Rivers State and a presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), questioned the notion of continuing Buhari’s supposed achievements.
In a video clip that resurfaced online on Thursday and is currently making the rounds, Wike was heard saying that the only accomplishments of the previous government were “people dying every day” and the naira “falling every day.”
Wike said, “It is most unfortunate when I hear people under APC declaring they want to continue the good job of Mr President—the good job of people dying every day, the good job of the naira falling every day.
“I feel so ashamed that we have reached the level of sycophancy where people say they want to continue the good work of Buhari. What is the good work of Buhari—hunger, poverty, insecurity, and an economy in decline?
“I can’t believe that someone would come out today and say they want to continue where Mr Buhari left off. May God never allow that evil to continue.”
According to Nigerians, the economic downturn of the former administration worsened after President Tinubu assumed office in 2023.
Wike, now the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory under the APC government, has been appealing to Nigerians to be patient with Tinubu’s administration, stating that the president needs more time to turn around the nation’s fortunes.
The FCT Minister has been critical of the ongoing nationwide protests against hardship, insisting that Tinubu means well for Nigerians.
Netizens recirculating the old video are mocking the Minister, accusing him of double standards.
