Just in: President Tinubu departs for China on official visit

President Bola Tinubu is set to depart from Abuja on Thursday, August 29, for an official visit to Beijing, China.

The visit marks a significant step in strengthening diplomatic and economic ties between Nigeria and China, one of the world’s largest economies.

Before arriving in Beijing, President Tinubu will have a brief layover in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), where he is expected to engage in discussions that may further Nigeria’s relations with the UAE, especially in areas of mutual interest such as trade, investment, and bilateral cooperation.

In China, President Tinubu will meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping.

The meeting is anticipated to cover a range of topics, including economic cooperation, infrastructural development, and investment opportunities in Nigeria.

Both leaders are expected to discuss strategies to enhance the longstanding relationship between Nigeria and China, particularly in the context of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC).

On the sidelines of the FOCAC, President Tinubu will also hold meetings with key Chinese business leaders. These discussions are likely to focus on attracting investment into Nigeria’s economy, particularly in critical sectors such as technology, energy, manufacturing, and infrastructure.

The President will be accompanied by senior government officials, according to a statement by Chief Ajuri Ngelale, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity.

This visit comes at a time when Nigeria is seeking to bolster its economic ties with major global powers and attract foreign investment to support its development goals.

The outcomes of the discussions in China could have far-reaching implications for Nigeria’s economic future, particularly in terms of infrastructure and industrial growth.
