President Bola Tinubu is currently presiding over the National Council of State meeting at the Presidential Villa, Aso Rock.
This marks the first Council of State meeting hosted by President Tinubu since assuming office.
The meeting has drawn notable attendees, including former Presidents Goodluck Jonathan and Muhammadu Buhari, who arrived in person. Olusegun Obasanjo who ruled the country as president from 1999 to 2007 is absent, as of press time.
Meanwhile, former Head of State, Abdulsalami Abubakar, and Yakubu Gowon joined virtually.
Sources within the presidency have revealed that the agenda of the meeting will be about addressing the fallout from the recent #EndBadGovernance protests, which took place from August 1 to 10. The presentations by serving ministers will also be a key focus.
Ministers invited to present include the Agriculture & Food Security Minister, who will discuss Food Security; the Coordinating Minister of the Economy, who will address the State of the Economy; the Minister for Works, who will update on Road Construction; and the Minister in Charge of the Ministry, who will discuss Solid Minerals.
The National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, will lead the presentations, followed by other cabinet members, including the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Head of Civil Service of the Federation, the NSA, and the Special Adviser on Information & Strategy.
The Council of State comprises notable members, including the President, Vice-President, former Presidents, former Heads of Government, former Chief Justices of Nigeria, the President of the Senate, Speaker of the House of Representatives, all state Governors, the Minister of Justice, and the Attorney General of the Federation.
