Civil/Public Servants in Ogun State have been called upon to take good advantage of the sporting activities embedded in the Public Service week celebration to keep fit, boost the brain and ease tension.
The Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Mr. Tokunbo Talabi made the call while flagging off the Indoor Games, comprising of table tennis, scrabble, ayo olopon and draft board game, as part of activities to commemorate the 2024 Public Service Week celebration held at the Arcade Ground, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.
According to him, apart from sports being a way of life and a good tool to relieve tension from all the stress of life, it also keeps the brain working especially with the array of games displayed for the workers to engage themselves with.
"I am particularly happy to be here on a day dedicated for sports. This is because sports, that is, keeping fit cannot be taken for granted in anybody's life. I'm equally glad that our Head of Service is actively promoting sports and all its engagement. More so, it makes the body and soul beautiful. I enjoin all our workers to actively participate and not just make it a ceremony but make it a way of life", the SSG said.
The SSG played glowing tributes to past Heads of Service appointed by this administration for moving the State Civil Service from glory to glory as this goes to show that government painstakingly chose them, and lauded the incumbent Head of Service, Mr. Kehinde Onasanya for being focused and productive, with a charge to all the workers to keep discharging their duties very well.
He advised that those with talents be encouraged to display them so that those with skills who can represent the State in other States' functions will emanate from this kind of programme.
He also charged the workers that as parents, they should not limit their children in any chosen skill but should encourage them to be their best in all they do.
Adding his voice, the Head of Service, Mr. Kehinde Onasanya said sports put in commemorating the Public Service Week was meant to bring unity and bonding amongst the workers as sports is a leveller that is devoid of seniority or hierarchy.
"This is physical wellness at work. It is a step in the right direction as sports is a vital tool that unites and bonds. What we are witnessing is that sports and health go 'pari passu'. This is bonding at work, Civil Servants are bonding together, no hierarchy, it is a leveller and the message we want to draw home to Civil Servants is that all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy, it is an instrument of unity, an avenue to create better understanding and bonding", the HoS said.
Highlights of the indoor games include the SSG and the HoS playing all the games together and with the workers as well as with the Commissioners for Industry, Trade and Investment, Mr. Adebola Sofela and Youth and Sports, Mr. Wasiu Isiaka.
