Tinubu’s govt pleads with Nigerians to shun protests

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), George Akume, has called on Nigerians to reconsider participating in the planned nationwide hunger protest.

Addressing the media today, Akume assured citizens that better days are ahead and urged them to maintain peace.

Accompanied by key ministers and the special adviser to the president on information and strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Akume assured Nigerians that the government is committed to addressing economic hardships.

Akume acknowledged the right to peaceful protest but expressed concern about potential disruptions caused by individuals with malicious intent.

He stated: “The government recognizes the right to peaceful protest, but we must exercise circumspection and vigilance. Protests have the potential to be hijacked by bandits, insurgents, and other criminals.”

He appealed to Nigerians to focus on dialogue and collaboration rather than disruptive actions.

We are in a period of economic adjustment, and while challenges remain, we believe that these difficulties will soon pass. Our goal is to foster peace and stability while addressing the needs of our citizens,” he said.

The SGF urged citizens to go about their daily lives and avoid engaging in activities that could compromise national peace.

“Please pursue the path of peace, dialogue, and collaboration. We remain open to constructive discussions and urge everyone to stay vigilant,” he stated.

Akume reassured Nigerians that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is committed to the nation’s progress and stability.

“Together, we will create a Nigeria where peace and stability are not just aspirations but realities, where economic growth is a tangible outcome, and where the dreams of our people are realized,” he concluded.
