Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun has disclosed that southern states have decided to promote inter-state and inter-region trade, to foster food security and sufficiency.
Governor Abiodun dropped the hint when he received the newly constituted Governing Council of the Federal University of Agriculture (FUNAAB), led by its Pro-Chancellor and Chairman, Oba Abdul-Rasheed Ayorinde Olabomi.
The governor, who is the Chairman of the Southern Governors' Forum (SGF), said southern states had an opportunity of fertile land and human capacity to promote trade among themselves.
While disclosing his administration’s commitment to food security, he solicited the institution's collaboration on the mission of the state government to establish Farmers' Markets at strategic locations across the state, including Asero in Abeokuta and Ogere along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway, adding that plans had been concluded to move Kara cattle market from its present location to Ogere.
Earlier, Oba Olabomi, described Abiodun as one of the best governors in the country, saying the institution was determined to contribute its quota to food security, urging the state government to take advantage of the several training programmes, research and development that FUNNAB stands to offer and assist in reconstructing road from Iyana-Camp to Alabata.
