The Rivers State Government has denied reports that it has approved N80,000 as the new minimum wage for civil servants in the state.
The rebuttal was contained in a statement released by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Nelson Chukwudi.
The government in the statement described the claims as “totally false and misleading.”
According to the statement, the government’s response aimed to correct any misconceptions, particularly among civil servants, and urged the public to disregard the false information circulating on an online media platform. The statement added that the Rivers State Government will make its position on the issue known in due course.
This development comes after the Federal Government and organized labour agreed on a new national minimum wage of N70,000, following months of negotiations.
