OGUN TO EMPLOY ADDITIONAL 1000 TEACHERS

Ogun State government has signified readiness to inject additional teachers into the school system by September 2024, in fulfilment of its affordable, qualitative and accessible education.

Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu dropped the hint while playing host to an education firm, Edupro Consulting in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, noting that the move was necessitated by the need to address shortage of teaching staff in schools.

Prof. Arigbabu explained that the present administration intends to employ 5,000 teachers, out of which 2,000 had been done, saying "The last time teachers were employed in the State was about 15 years ago until we came on board, we decided to inject 5,000, 2,000 has been employed already, by September we'll inject another 1,000".

Arigbabu stated that the state digital platform; Ogun State Education Revitalisation Agenda (OGSERA) had made it easy for the government to make adequate provisions for the needs of learners and teachers through availability of data, adding that the challenge of examination malpractices, indiscipline, and needs for essential necessities were done through the platform.

Speaking earlier, Director, EduPro Consulting, Mr. Timi Lawson lauded government on its effective education policies and initiatives, seeking collaboration with the ministry in tackling challenges faced by the sector.

In another development, Prof. Arigbabu commended the Local Organising Committee (LOC) for the Maiden Ogun State Employment Conference organised by Ministry of Industries, Trade and Investment, held in October 2023.

The Commissioner gave the commendation, while receiving Committee's for the event in his office at Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, saying its recommendation would form policies and decisions for the transformation of the sector in the state.

Earlier, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Industries, Trade and Investment, who doubles as Chairman of the LOC, Mr. Olu.Ola Aikulola, appreciated the Commissioner for his support towards the success of the conference.
