OGSG TO REGIG OGEERE TRAILER PARK

Following a recent fire outbreak that consumed a section of the ever-busy Ogeere Trailer Park in Ikenne Local Government Area of Ogun State, the government has assured a more secure and effective re-organisation of the Park, to protect the lives and property of stakeholders and users.

Giving this assurance was the Commissioner for Transportation, Engr. Gbenga Dairo during an inspection tour of the park to ascertain the immediate and remote cause of the fire incident.

The commissioner observed that the incident occurred due to the negligence and lack of supervision by those who were entrusted to oversee the activities of users of the park, adding that the incident would have been avoided if a routine inspection had been carried out to prevent unlawful business operations like selling of diesel, situating welding and technician workshops close to where the articulated vehicles were parked.

Represented by the Special Assistant to the Governor on Transportation, Alhaji Olufodun Moibi, the Commissioner said that government would ensure that drastic and corrective measures would be deployed to re-strategise operations within the park and environs.

He charged the executive committee of operators of the park to make safety their watchword, advising on the need to re-allocate spaces for artisans outside of the park and to continually monitor the activities of drivers and other operators, who might want to contravene the safety rules.

Engr. Dairo commended the Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE) and the Nigeria Police Force for ensuring that law and order were maintained, charging them to do more in terms of traffic and crime control to prevent outlaws who might want to infiltrate into the system.

The Commissioner assured that modalities would also be worked out to ensure that the park be re-modelled to meet the ever-growing demands and align with global best practices.

Appreciating government for the visit, the Seriki Hausa community of the Park, Alhaji Kabir Adamu, requested for a fire fighting station inside the premises and a rear exit route for the park.

The Governor's aide was accompanied by the Director of Transport Engineering in the Ministry, Engr. Bamidele Hassan and the Director, Ogun State Parks and Garages Development Board, Mrs. Osilalu.
