“I Stand By My Statement” – Ndume Breaks Silence on Removal as Senate Chief Whip

Senator Ali Ndume has broken his silence on his removal as the Chief Whip of the Senate.

The lawmaker has stated that his actions did not warrant his sack.

He made this known in an exclusive interview at his country home in Maiduguri.

According to Ndume, he couldn’t speak up immediately after his sack because he was mourning the death of a family member.

Ndume revealed that he had reviewed the conversation that led to his ouster and believed it did not justify his removal.

Recall that Ndume was removed as Senate Chief Whip after criticizing President Bola Tinubu’s government’s handling of national issues. However, the Borno South lawmaker maintained that his comments were not enough to warrant his sack.

Ndume also declined the chairmanship of the Senate Committee on Tourism, citing lack of experience and exposure to lead such a sensitive group.

Ndume revealed that he never wanted to be a Senate Whip after serving as the leader in the eight Senate. He said he was given the chance to choose which committee to serve as vice chairman after successfully leading the campaigns that brought about the emergence of Godwill Akpabio as President of the Senate.

When asked about calls to resign from the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ndume stated that he is a founding member of the party. He said he was one of the twenty-two senators from the PDP who formed the APC when the current national chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje, was a deputy governor in Kano State.

Ndume, however, said he would consult his people before deciding on whether to leave the APC or not.
